Natal chez Sabi // Christmas chez Sabi

 

Estou muito orgulhosa do meu Natal DIY (FVM em português, mas gosto mais da versão inglesa). Só comprei a árvore de Natal e o papel de embrulho para fazer os enfeites, o resto aproveitei o que já tinha por casa e as decorações que vieram com a árvore de Natal (na qual, por acaso, tivemos 50% de desconto).

I am very proud of my DIY Christmas. I only bought the Christmas tree and de wrapping paper to make the decorations, for the rest I used stuff I already had and the decorations that came with the tree (on which, by the way, we had a 50% discount).

A maioria das coisas foram feitas numa noite de frustração por não ter a casa suficientemente decorada, pelo que não tirei fotos do processo, mas penso que seja fácil entender como foram feitas.

Most of the things were made on one night I was feeling very frustrated about the house not being decorated enough, so I didn't took any pictures of the process, but I think it's easy to understand  how I made each thing.

A coroa de natal dá as boas-vindas a quem entra ( papel pardo, que veio nas caixas do Ikea; fio verde; laços que vieram com a árvore de Natal )

The Christmas wreath welcomes us at the entrance door ( paper that came with the furniture boxes from Ikea; green thread; bows, which came with the Christmas tree)

 Na janela, cai a neve ( a grinalda veio com a árvore de natal; algodão em rama para os flocos redondos; papel cavalinho branco para os flocos mais elaborados - tirei a ideia daqui e daqui, mas fiz à minha maneira)

It "snows" by the window (the garland came with the Christmas tree; cotton to make the round snowflakes; thick white paper to make the elaborated snowflakes - I took the idea from here and here, but I did them my way). 

Na árvore não podiam faltar bolas vermelhas (vieram incluídas), mas o resto foi "caseirinho" (cartão e papel de embrulho para os enfeites 3-D; restos de plástico para forrar gavetas para os flocos) - ainda não está totalmente completa, pois faltam as luzes e algo para pôr em cima.

Red balls are a must-be on my Christmas tree (they were included), but the rest was homemade (cardoboard and wrapping paper for the 3-D decorations; leftover plastic used to line drawers for the snowflakes) - it's not fully decorated yet, the lights and something to put on the top are still missing.

Ainda há mais cantinhos para mostrar, mas fica para depois :)

Punhos // Wristwarmers

A minha avó tem uma teoria : se nos queremos manter quentinhos, temos de ter as mãos e os antebraços quentes. Por outro lado, se queremos estar fresquinhos quando está muito calor, temos de arrefecer as mãos e os braços com água fria, mas não falemos disso agora... brrr... :)

A teoria da minha avó passou para a minha mãe, que passava os Invernos a tricotar punhos de lã nas mais variadas cores, para ela e para mim. Mas quando fiquei mais velha, o hábito perdeu-se (também não ajudou a "crise" da adolescência, em que não se quer usar nada que seja diferente, com medo de se ser gozado) e os punhos também. De há uns anos para cá, comecei a dizer que tinha de tricotar uns, mas depois acabava por adiar e na Primavera já não fazia sentido estar de volta com as lãs :P No entanto, depois de fazer a cachecola, comecei a imaginar outros usos a dar ao resto da malha e resolvi costurar uns punhinhos!

My grandmother has this theory : if you want to keep warm, you have to have warm hands and forearms. On the other hand, if it's too hot and you want to cool down, wet your hands and forearms with cold water, but let's not talk about that right now... brrr... :)
This theory passed on to my mother, who spent all Winter knitting wristwarmers, in all the colours of the rainbow, for me and her. But when I grew up, that habit was lost ( and also the teenage years, when you don't want to wear anything different, afraid of being mocked by peers, didn't help), and so were the wristwarmers. For a few years now I told myself that I had to knit some again, but I always postponed and then came Spring and it didn't make much sense to fiddle around with wool. :P However, after making the neckwarmer the other day, I decided to make myself some wristwarmers aswell.

Cortei uns quadrados com a altura que queria e a largura suficiente para me cobrir os pulsos. Para que não se desfizessem, dei uns pontos muito simples a toda a largura, bem rentinho às bordas de cima e de baixo (linha vermelha). Pode-se fazer bainha, mas como eu fiz tudo à mão e me deu a preguiça, fiz desta forma mais simples e até gostei do resultado, meio "desalinhado".

I cut some squares with the height I wanted and that were wide enough to fit around my wrist. I quickly top stitched the bottom and top part, so that the knit wouldn't unravel (red line). You can hem them, but as I did it all by hand and I was feeling lazy, I did it this simple way, and I really liked the "rough-edges" look in the end.

Depois, dobrei ao meio e cosi os lados um ao outro, de maneira a formar um tubo (linha verde). Virei os punhos, de forma à costura ficar para dentro e ficaram prontos :)

Then, I folded the square in half and sewed the sides to eachother, so that the whole thing was tube-shapped (green line). I turn them rightside out and they were ready to be worn :)

Apesar de não serem muito grossos, mantêm-me os braços e as mãos quentes e dão um toque diferente à roupa.

They may not be that thick, but they do keep my arms and hands warm and they give a special touch to an outfit.

"Cachecola" ou Agasalho ou Abafador para pescoço // Neckwarmer

Uma pequena explicação para o título : eu não sei como chamar a estas coisas em português. Traduzido de outras línguas seria "aquecedor de pescoço", mas acho que é um nome feio... Portanto tomei a liberdade (tal qual o Ambrósio) de re-baptizar este item : não é cachecol, não é gola = é uma (ou um, o género ainda é algo a decidir) cachecola! Não é muito melhor, mas ao menos não me faz vir à cabeça imagens de aquecedores a óleo. Mas aceitam-se sugestões :D

Ora bem, eu fiz esta cachecola a partir de um cachecol que já tinha alguns anos mas que tinha pouco uso. Não era feio, mas era assim sem sal - um normal cachecol, um pouco para o largo, às riscas. E além disso, os acabamentos não eram os melhores e não era grande fã das franjas roxas e, por isso, quando tive a fazer a troca do roupa de Verão para a de Inverno, este foi logo para o monte do reaproveitamento.

Well, I made this neckwarmer out of a scarf that I already had for a while but which I didn't wear much. It's not that it was ugly, but it was a tad too plain - a regular kind of wide stripped scarf. On top of that, the edges weren't that well finished and the purple fringes weren't my cup of tea, so, when I was switching my summer clothes for my winter clothes I put this right on the repurposing pile.

Cortei um bocado de cachecol que desse a volta ao meu pescoço e ficasse com o comprimento que eu queria. Dobrei esse bocado ao meio, pelo cumprimento, e cosi a quase toda a volta. Deixei apenas um espaço suficiente para virar todo o cachecol e depois fechei a abertura.

I cut a piece of the scarf, big enough to go around my neck and have the final length I was looking for. I folded that piece in half, lengthwise, and I sewed almost all around it. I only left a gap big enough to turn it rightside out and then closed that opening.

A partir daqui as coisas variam consoante o gosto de cada um. Pode-se deixar a cachecola como está e fechá-la com a ajuda de uma pregadeira. Eu preferi pôr um botão. Como não tinha nem queria comprar um botão que combinasse, usei um velho que aqui tinha e forrei-o com um bocado da malha. Depois, preguei-o à aba que ia ficar por baixo e, na aba de cima, fiz um casa muito rudimentar, para poder fechar a cachecola. Por sugestão do meu namorado (tenho de lhe dar o devido crédito), preguei outro botão igual na aba de cima de cima, abaixo dessa casa, mas para efeitos puramente decorativos.

From here on, the options are various, depending on our personal taste. You could leave the neckwarmer as is, closing it with a broche or so. I decided to put a button. As I didn't have a cute button, nor did I want to buy one, I used an old one I had laying around and covered it with a bit of the same knit-material. Then, I sewed it on the neckwarmer and made a rudimentar buttonhole on the overlapping flap, so I could  button the neckwarmer up. My boyfriend (I must give him credit) suggested I sewed another button on the upper flap, under the button case, to embelish the whole thing a bit more.

Fiquei com um acessório muito giro e prático. Concluí que, ao contrário dos cachecóis normais, estas cachecolas podem-se usar mesmo dentro de casa ou no trabalho, sem que estorve a nossa actividade e sem ter o ar de "roupa de rua" :)

Now I have a very cute and practical accesory. I reached to the conclusion that, unlike regular scarfs, neckwarmers can be worn even inside the house or at the office, withouth disturbing our activities or having that "outer wear look" :)

Coroa de Advento // Advent Crown

Para mim, o Natal começa no 1º Advento, ou seja, o 1º dos 4 Domingos anteriores ao Natal. Esse é o dia de começar a fazer as bolachas de Natal, fazer a árvore de Natal, de decorar a casa... Infelizmente, este ano não houve tempo para fazer isso tudo, mas uma das coisas que não pode falhar é a coroa de advento.

A Coroa de Advento é um candelabro circular, que pode ser simples ou decorada, onde se põem 4 velas : em cada Domingo de Advento acende-se uma, até que, no último, as 4 estão acesas.

Christmas, for me, starts on the 1st Advent, that is, the first of the 4 Sundays before Christmas. That's the day when the cookies are made, the tree and the rest of the house is decorated... Unfortunately, this year there wasn't enough time to do all that, but one of the things that is a must-be is the Advent Crown.

The Advent Crown is circular candle holder, simple or decorated, where you put 4 candles : on each Advent Sunday you light one until, on the last one, all 4 are lit up.

Este ano tivemos de comprar a árvore, portanto não quis gastar dinheiro em mais decorações. Peguei então num prato que não usamos, e forrei-o com papel de alumínio. Depois peguei num guardanapo vermelho, fiz-lhe uns recortes, e pus por cima. Em vez de uma coroa, fiquei com um prato de Advento :) Não é a mesma coisa, mas assim tenho uma forma bonita para fazer a contagem decrescente para o Natal!

This year we had to buy the tree, so I didn't want to spend any more money on decorations. I took a plate that we don't use and wrapped it in aluminium foil. Then, I took a red paper napkin, made a few cut outs and put it on the centre of the plate. Instead of a Advent crown, I ended up with an Advent plate :) It's not the same thing, but it's a nice way to make the cuntdown until Christmas!

Enfeites para a árvore de Natal // Christmas tree decorations

Esta ideia não é originalmente minha - vi estas estrelas no site  "O Artesanato" e decidi que tinha de ter umas no estilo para decorar a minha árvore, não só porque são bonitas, mas também porque me permitia reutilizar as embalagens de papel que há cá por casa :) Só que eu não me quis ficar pelas estrelas, pelo que também fiz umas bolas e umas estrelas cadentes, baseadas no mesmo conceito.

This ideia isn't originally from me - I saw these stars on the site "O Artensanato" and decided that I just had to have some to decorate my Christmas tree, not only because they are very pretty, but also because it allowed me to repurpose the paper boxes that we have around the house :) But I didn't want only stars, so I also did some balls and some shooting stars, based on the same concept.

As imagens são bastante explícitas e o site dá uma explicação bastante boa, mas vou repetir aqui, rapidamente, como fiz.

The pictures are quite self-explanatory and the site gives a very good explanation of the process, but I'll repeat here, quickly, how I made mine.

Primeiro, desenhei as figuras que queria fazer em papel de rascunho e recortei-as. A estrela retirei do site "O Artesanato", a bola fiz a partir de um copo e a estrela cadente retirei daqui. Como eu não quis imprimir as imagens, usei um pequeno truque : encostar uma folha ao ecrã do computador e, muito ao de leve, traçar o desenho com um lápis. Depois, já sobre uma mesa, voltar a traçar o desenho, desta vez mais carregado e corrigindo leves impressões.

First, I drew the figures I wanted to make on the back of a used piece of paper and I cut them out. I copied the star from the "O Artesanato" website, for the circle I used a glass and the shooting star I copied from here. As I didn't want to print the pictures, I used a little trick : I placed the sheet of paper in front of the computer screen and traced the picture, very carefully and lightly, directly from it. Afterwards, I re-traced them, correcting any imperfections.

Com base nesses moldes, fazer as estrelas, bolas, etc... necessárias, usando cartolina ou, como eu fiz, embalagens de papel de cereais ou bolachas - não esquecer que, para cada enfeite, são precisas duas formas. Para as estrelas cadentes, eu só queria o efeito 3-D na cauda, portanto, para cada fazia pares de 1 estrela cadente completa e uma cauda.

Por sua vez, com base nesses moldes de cartolina, traçar e recortar o desenho correspondente em papel bonito - eu usei papel de embrulho natalício.

Using the cut-outs as guidelines, trace and cut out the figures on construction paper or, as I did it, on cereal boxes, cookie packages, etc... - don't forget that for each decoration you need two figures. For the shooting star, however, I only wanted the tail to be three-dimensional, so I used a complete shooting star and one tail bit. Next, using these construction paper figures, trace them on pretty paper and cut these last drawings out - I used wrapping paper.

De seguida, forram-se as formas de cartolina com esse papel. Se for necessário, recortar o excesso de papel com uma tesoura afiada.

Afterwards, glue the wrapping paper figures on to the construction paper figures. If necessary, cut the excess paper off, with a sharp scissor.

 Agora, temos de fazer o corte. Podem ver onde fiz os cortes na foto - estão assinalados a vermelho.

Now, we have to make the cut, using a sharp scissor. You can see where and how deep I did them on the picture - the cuts are marked in red.

Finalmente, encaixar cuidadosamente as duas formas uma na outra e fazer um furo na parte de cima, suficiente para passar um fio. Mais uma vez, os locais dos furos estão assinalados a verde. 

Finally, carefully assemble each decoration and make a little hole on the top, big enough to pass a piece of thread to hang them. Once again, the places where I made the holes are marked in green.

Eu sei que não estão perfeitos, mas fui eu que os fiz e estou imensamente orgulhosa deles. Gostei imenso do papel dos anjinhos (fazem-me lembrar uma decoração da Natal que havia em minha casa, quando era pequena) e, depois de montados, apercebi-me de mais uma coisa deliciosa - quando os enfeites rodopiam (o que é frequente quando estão penduradas), os anjinhos parece que estão todos malucos a voar de um lado para o outro e de cima para baixo :D 

I know they're not perfect, but I made them by myself and I am immensely proud of them. I really liked the angels  on the wrapping paper (they reminded me of a Christmas decoration we  had at home, when I was little) and, after I finished the decorations, I realized one other delighful detail - when the decorations are spinning (which often happens, when they're hanging), the angels seem to be flying one side to another and up and down, like crazy :D

Apanhado (de cabelo) da Meia // Sockbun

Há pouco tempo, quando li os comentários de um post noutro blog, tomei conhecimento de uma coisa chamada "Sock Bun", ou seja, "apanhado da meia", um apanhado de cabelo em que se aproveitava uma meia velha (!!). É óbvio que tive de ir pesquisar, pois meias desemparelhadas é o que não falta por aqui (costumo usá-las para limpar sapatos, mas mesmo assim ainda sobram) e a oportunidade de aprender um penteado novo é coisa que eu não deixo passar.

Some time ago, when I read the comments on a post in another blog, I learned about something called Sock Bun, a hair up-do where, allegedly, you used an old sock (!!). Of course, I had to check it out, because this household ain't short on unmatched socks ( I usually use them to clean shoes, but I still have a lot) and I couldn't let the opportunity to learn a new hair-do pass by.

No youtube vi este vídeo, muito giro e tal, dá para ver como se faz o apanhado, mas eu não percebia onde é que entrava a meia e, ainda por cima, era necessário ter aquela coisa em forma de donut. Já estava desanimada quando decidi ver outro filme, que era muito comprido e secante Mas finalmente percebi qual o papel da meia : fazer o tal donut!

I saw this video on youtube, very nice and all, you learn how to make the up-do, but I couldn't figure out where the sock entered the process and, on top of that, you had to have a dougnut-shaped thing to make it work. I was already a little disappointed when I decided to watch this other video, which was very long and boring... But I finally found out what the sock's part was in this hair-do : you made the doughnut-shaped thing out of it!

Como eu não vos quero obrigar a desperdiçar 6 minutos a ver este último filme, decidi fazer um pequeno tutorial para fazer o donut.

I don't want you to waste 6 minutes watching this last video, so I decided to make a little tutorial on how to make the doughnut.

Primeiro, encontrar uma meia e cortar-lhe a ponta (onde ficam os dedos). Para cabelos mais fartos e grossos, usem uma meia de homem. Se tiverem cabelinhos fininhos (moi même) usem uma meia de senhora. Se quiserem fazer uns toutiços mais pequeninos, usem meias de criança.

First of all, find a sock and cut of its tip (where the toes are). If you have a lot or thick hair, you're better off using a man's sock. If you have finer hair (like myself), use a lady's sock. If you want to make little buns, use a child's sock.

Depois, é só começar a enrolar, começando pela parte cortada e terminando no tornozelo. Suponho que, chegando ao fim, possam dar uns pontinhos para não se desenrolar, mas eu não achei necessário.

Then, you just have to roll the sock, starting from the cut part and ending on the anckle bit. I suppose that you could make some stitches in the end, so that it doesn't unroll, but I didn't think it was necessary.

Para fazer o apanhado, é só ver o primeiro filme. É muito fácil de fazer e sempre é um penteado diferente. Eu não fiz a parte da trança, primeiro porque não gosto, segundo porque não teria cabelo suficiente. As pontas soltas, que ficam depois de se esconder o dónut e prender com um puxinho, enrolei-as à volta do toutiço e prendi com ganchinhos no final, de forma a estes ficarem escondidos debaixo do apanhado.

To make the actual hair-do, just watch the first video. It's very easy and it's a different way to wear your hair. I didn't braided my hair, though, because, first,  I didn't like the look and, second, I wouldn't have enough hair to pull it off anyway.  I just rolled the loose hair, that hangs from the sides after you hide the sock, around the bun and secured the ends with some hairpins, that I hid under the bun.

Desafio 7 perguntas, com um cheirinho a Natal // 7 questions challenge, with a hint of Christmas time

 A Patrícia lembrou-se de mim quando fez este desafio e decidi deixá-lo também aqui. É um exercício engraçado, que nos faz pensar sobre nós e a nossa vida :) Como o Natal não tarda, sempre que pude respondi tendo em conta esta quadra! Tartelettes simples de maçã // Simple apple tartelettes

Esta receita não é novidade para ninguém, mas o meu namorado gostou tanto e achou-as tão bonitas que me "obrigou" a tirar foto e a escrever um post sobre as minhas tartelettes simples de maçã.

This recipe isn't news to anyone, but my boyfriend liked them so much and thought they were so beatifull, that he "made" me take a photo and write a post about my simple apple tartelettes.

Basta ter massa folhada e maçãs. Depois de estendida, a massa é cortada em qualquer forma  - eu fiz 6 rectângulos. Com uma faca afiada, tracem uma linha à volta de cada uma dessas partes, rente à borda, sem cortar até ao fundo. Dentro desse "desenho", coloquei rodelas de maçã fininhas, até encher tudo com a fruta.

You only need some puff pastry and apples. After de dough is rolled out, cut it in equal shapes - I made 6 rectangles. With a sharp knife, draw a line around the edge of each piece of dough, without cutting all the way through. Inside that drawing, place thin slices of apple, until all is filled with fruit.

Polvilhar cada uma das tartelettes com açúcar e canela e pincelar toda a superfície (só muito ao de leve por cima das maçãs) com uma gema batida com um bocadinho de essência de baunilha.

Sprinkle sugar and cinammon over each one of the tartelletes and brush the whole surface (very lightly over the actual apples) with some egg yolk whisked with a little bit of vanilla.

Pôr no forno pré-aquecido a 150º durante até estarem douradinhas (as minhas demoraram 20 minutos).

Put in the pre-heated oven, at 150º until they're golden brown (mine took 20 minutes).

Quem diz maçã, diz qualquer fruta, portanto é uma receita muito versátil e que faz uma sobremesa, lanche ou pequeno almoço bastante delicioso, em pouco tempo.

Other fruits will work aswell, so it's a very versatile recipe and it makes a delicious desert, snack or even breakfast in a short time.

Ora bem, recebi este selo e vamos lá ver se me entendo com isto! :P Obrigada Luisa, fiquei muito contente com o gesto :) A Luísa tem um blog muito bonito em que fala da vida diária da sua família de citadinos recém-chegados ao campo, um dia-a-dia muito em contacto e em harmonia com a Natureza, e mostra as coisas que faz para o manter assim! É muito interessante e inspirador e, por isso, já é uma das minhas visitas regulares, apesar de ainda ser novinho :)

Well, I've recieved this award and let's see if I can understand how this works! :P Thank you Luisa, this gesture made me very happy :) Luísa has a very pretty blog where she talks about the daily life of her city "born" family who recently moved to the countryside, a life very much in touch and in harmony with Nature, and where she shows the things she does to keep it that way! It's very interesting and inspiring and, therefore, her blog is one of my regular stops, despite being  very young :)

Esta última regra vou alterá-la um bocadinho e indicar todos os blogs que eu sigo (é só ver na barra lateral) regularmente  já que considero que todos eles, de uma forma ou outra, transmitem os ideais e valores dos seus escritores de forma criativa,  e também a todos os visitantes que consideram que o seu blog é também expressão disso :)
